Former India captain and head coach Rahul Dravid declared on Sunday that the nation's immense cricketing potential is now being realized through a remarkable series of victories in global tournaments, marking a new era of consistent success for Indian cricket.
Unprecedented Success in ICC Events
India has achieved an extraordinary run in International Cricket Council events over the past two years, securing multiple world titles across different formats and age groups. The men's team clinched the last two T20 World Cups, while the women's team triumphed in the ODI World Cup. Additionally, India won both the men's U-19 World Cup and the women's U-19 T20 World Cup, showcasing depth and talent throughout the cricketing ecosystem.
Dravid Reflects on Cricket's Evolution
Speaking at the annual awards function of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, where he received the prestigious Col CK Nayudu Lifetime Achievement Award, Dravid emphasized how everything is coming together for Indian cricket. "It just kind of feels right, right?" Dravid stated in an exclusive interaction with Star Sports. "Almost everything coming together at this point of time where Indian cricket has always had great potential and it's about realizing that potential on the field as well."
Dravid, who made his international debut in 1996, reflected on the three-decade journey, noting the phenomenal growth of Indian cricket. "It's been amazing to see the way Indian cricket has grown over these three decades," he remarked, highlighting the alignment of various elements that have fueled this success.

Dravid attributed the sustained success to a combination of critical factors that have converged to elevate Indian cricket to new heights:

"The kind of supporters and fans that we have deserved all of this to come together, to have success on the field," Dravid emphasized. "It's amazing to see how all of that is coming together now."

Dravid, who guided India to the T20 World Cup title in 2024, specifically praised the current team for managing immense expectations and performing under pressure. "It was just lovely to see... Just the performance of the world T20 side, the expectations were immense. They started off as favourites, and it's not always easy," he acknowledged.
He highlighted the challenges of being tournament favorites and the pressure that comes with such status. "Yes, of course, they're a very good side, but it's not always easy to start off as favourites and be there right at the end and lift a trophy. It comes with its own pressures, its own challenges," Dravid explained.
The former coach commended captain Suryakumar Yadav, coach Gautam Gambhir, and the entire team for their resilience and achievement. "It was just really good to see Surya and Gautam and the team really do that," he concluded, celebrating their ability to translate potential into championship glory.
