MUMBAI: Mumbai and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batter Ayush Mhatre is likely to be sidelined for the next couple of months due to a hamstring injury and a wrist injury, as per sources close to the development.
Injury Details and Recovery Timeline
According to a source tracking the situation, Ayush not only sustained a left hamstring injury but has also been diagnosed with a wrist problem. He is now expected to be out of action for a period of two months. This unfortunate development means the teenage cricketer will miss the upcoming edition of the T20 Mumbai League, which is scheduled to take place in June. Mhatre was retained by Triumph Knights alongside India’s T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav.
Earlier Setback and Rehabilitation
Mhatre had already been ruled out of IPL 2026 due to the left hamstring injury. The 18-year-old suffered the injury while batting during CSK’s match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 18. CSK had previously announced that the injury would require a rehabilitation period of six to twelve weeks. The franchise posted on social media: “Ayush’s injury will require a rehabilitation period of 6-12 weeks. We wish Ayush a speedy recovery.”
CSK batting coach Mike Hussey expressed his disappointment, stating, “It looks pretty bad, unfortunately. He’s going to be a big, big loss because he’s been in really nice touch for us.”
Performance in IPL 2026
Before the injury forced him to the sidelines, Mhatre had scored 201 runs in six innings at an impressive strike rate of 177.87 in IPL 2026. His absence will be felt by CSK as they continue their campaign.
