A tragic accident occurred on Wednesday in the Baytu police station area of Barmer district, where a Class 8 student was killed and 20 others were injured after a truck hit a private school bus from behind on National Highway 25.

Victim Identified

The deceased has been identified as Virdharam (14), a resident of Bhimarlai in Barmer. He succumbed to his injuries before reaching Jodhpur after being referred for treatment.

Details of the Incident

Baytu Station House Officer Manohar Vishnoi stated that the Saraswati Vidya Mandir school bus was carrying 36 children from Classes 5 to 8. As the bus passed through the Baytu area on NH-25, a truck coming from behind collided with it, leaving children trapped inside. The truck dragged the bus for approximately 50 feet after the impact.

An earth mover was used to break open the rear section of the bus to rescue the trapped students. Local residents also assisted in the rescue operations, Vishnoi added.

Injuries and Aftermath

Following the incident, the truck driver fled the scene. Of the 20 injured children, nine were referred from Baytu Hospital to Balotra for further treatment. The authorities are investigating the matter.
