A video capturing Indian cricket star Jasprit Bumrah in a tense exchange with a fan at an airport has spread rapidly across social media platforms. The incident occurred while the fast bowler was standing in a check-in queue.
The Viral Airport Confrontation
The episode began when a fan started recording a selfie video with Bumrah without first asking for his consent. According to the footage, Bumrah initially issued a warning to the individual, asking him to stop filming. When the fan continued to record, Bumrah's patience ran out. He then reached out, took the fan's mobile phone, and threw it aside.
The brief verbal exchange, as heard in the clip, went as follows. The fan said, "Aapke saath hi jaunga sir mai" (I'll go with you only, sir). Bumrah retorted with a stern warning, "Phone gir gya aapka to mereko bolna nahi" (If your phone falls, don't blame me). The fan replied, "Koi baat nahi sir" (That's okay, sir), to which Bumrah simply said "Cool" before proceeding to snatch the device, effectively ending the situation.
Bumrah's Current Cricket Commitments
This incident comes while Jasprit Bumrah is part of the Indian squad engaged in an ongoing T20 International series against South Africa. His performance in the series has been a mix of highs and lows. In the first T20I held in Cuttack, he delivered an impressive spell, taking two wickets while giving away only 17 runs.
However, his figures were less impactful in the second match played in Mullanpur, where he went wicketless and conceded 45 runs. Bumrah subsequently missed the third T20I in Dharamshala. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) officially stated that he returned home for personal reasons.
Series Status and Upcoming Matches
The five-match series is currently led by India with a 2-1 scoreline. The action is set to resume with the fourth T20I, scheduled to be played at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow. The fifth and final match of the series will then be hosted at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on December 19.
