In a prestigious ceremony held at Sankalp Sabhagar within his official residence at 1, Anne Marg in Patna, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Sunday bestowed honors upon teenage batting prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. The young cricketer was recognized for his exceptional contributions that brought immense pride to Bihar during India's triumphant campaign at the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup 2026.

Chief Minister Nitish Kumar presented Vaibhav Sooryavanshi with a substantial cheque amounting to Rs 50 lakh alongside a traditional angavastra as tokens of appreciation and encouragement. The event was attended by a distinguished gathering, including Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, Water Resources Minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary, Sports Minister Shreyasi Singh, and several senior officials from the Chief Minister's office and the Bihar State Sports Authority.

In a statement released by his office, CM Nitish Kumar extended heartfelt congratulations to Sooryavanshi, emphasizing the cricketer's pivotal role in securing India's victory. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's recognition stems from his outstanding display in the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup 2026, where he was adjudged Player of the Match in the final against England. His blistering innings of 175 runs off just 80 balls, including a century reached in a mere 55 balls—one of the fastest in Under-19 World Cup history—was instrumental in India clinching the title for the sixth time.
Born on March 27, 2011, in Samastipur district, Sooryavanshi was also named Player of the Tournament, amassing 439 runs across seven matches at an impressive strike rate of 169.50 and an average of 62.71. Notably, the left-handed opener struck the most sixes in the tournament, with a total of 30.
Record-Breaking Achievements and IPL Feats
Beyond the Under-19 arena, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi holds remarkable records in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He is recognized as the youngest debutant in IPL history at 14 years and 23 days, and the youngest to score a century in the IPL, achieving this milestone in just 35 balls against the Gujarat Giants.
