Bengaluru has witnessed a significant annual decline in triple-riding cases over the past three years, according to the latest traffic police data. However, authorities note that night violations continue to persist, posing a challenge to road safety efforts.
Declining Trend in Triple-Riding Cases
Figures show that in 2023, traffic police recorded 1,17,738 cases of triple-riding. This number rose to a peak of 1,59,485 in 2024 before falling to 1,10,917 in 2025. So far in 2026, only 59,851 cases have been reported, indicating a steady decline.
Night Violations Remain a Concern
Despite the overall drop, enforcement officials highlight that triple-riding violations during nighttime hours have not reduced proportionally. Many commuters, particularly in areas with limited public transport, continue to flout rules after dark.
The Bengaluru traffic police have intensified patrols and deployed additional personnel during late hours to curb such offenses. They also plan to leverage technology, including automated number plate recognition cameras, to detect violations more effectively.
Triple-riding, which involves three people on a two-wheeler, is a common traffic violation in the city and often leads to accidents. The police urge citizens to adhere to road safety norms and avoid overloading vehicles.
