The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced India's 15-member squad for the upcoming ODI series against England, with Shubman Gill set to lead the team. The series marks the return of Virat Kohli to the ODI setup, while Shreyas Iyer has been named vice-captain.
Squad Announcement and Key Inclusions
The BCCI revealed the squad on June 21, 2026, via an official announcement on social media. The three-match ODI series is scheduled to be played in England later this year. Gill, who has been in stellar form across formats, will captain the side for the first time in ODIs, having previously led India in T20Is.
Virat Kohli's inclusion is a significant boost for the team, as the veteran batsman brings immense experience and consistency to the middle order. Shreyas Iyer, who has been a regular in the ODI setup, will serve as Gill's deputy.
Injury Update: Varun Chakaravarthy Ruled Out
In a separate development, the BCCI also confirmed that spinner Varun Chakaravarthy has been ruled out of the ongoing Ireland T20I series. He will continue his rehabilitation at the BCCI Centre of Excellence (COE). The update was shared alongside the ODI squad announcement.
Full Squad and Expectations
The full 15-member squad includes a mix of experienced players and young talent. Alongside Gill, Kohli, and Iyer, the squad features key players such as Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, and Ravindra Jadeja. The BCCI has not yet announced the schedule for the England series, but it is expected to be a crucial preparation for the 2027 ODI World Cup.
India's recent ODI performances have been strong, and the team will look to continue their momentum under Gill's leadership. The selection committee, led by Ajit Agarkar, has emphasized building a balanced squad capable of performing in English conditions.
