Mumbai Cricket Association Plans Grand Felicitation

Meanwhile, the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has announced plans to honor the Mumbai-based players who were instrumental in India's victory. MCA president Ajinkya Naik revealed that skipper Ayush Mhatre and vice-captain Abhigyan Kundu will be felicitated by the board. Additionally, the MCA has requested the Maharashtra state government to organize a felicitation ceremony with Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, similar to the recognition given to the women's cricket team after their ICC Women's World Cup win last year.

Naik emphasized, "It is a matter of happiness that India won the U19 World Cup, with Ayush Mhatre, our Mumbai player, and Abhigyan Kundu as captain and vice-captain. Given the dominance they have shown, we will felicitate them 100 per cent. We have also requested the Maharashtra government to felicitate them like the Women's World Cup winning team was felicitated by Fadnavis ji. When they come to Mumbai, the MCA will felicitate them as per our protocols."

Record-Breaking Final Match Highlights

The final match was a spectacle of cricketing excellence, with India posting a formidable total of 411/9 after opting to bat first. Key performances included:

  • Vaibhav Suryavanshi delivered a stunning masterclass, scoring 175 runs off just 80 balls, including 15 fours and 15 sixes.
  • Skipper Ayush Mhatre contributed a solid half-century with 53 runs from 51 balls, featuring seven fours and two sixes.
  • Abhigyan Kundu added 40 runs in 31 balls, with six fours and a six, bolstering India's innings.

In response, England fought valiantly but fell short, being bowled out for 311 runs. Notable efforts from Ben Dawkins (66 runs) and Caleb Falconer (115 runs) were not enough to secure victory, as England has not won the title since 1998. The match aggregate of 722 runs set a new record for the highest in an U-19 World Cup final, underscoring the high-scoring and competitive nature of the game.

This victory not only cements India's dominance in youth cricket but also sets the stage for these young stars to shine on the international arena in the years to come.
