Axar Patel fined Rs 12 lakh for slow over rate in IPL win

Delhi Capitals captain Axar Patel has been fined Rs 12 lakh after his team maintained a slow over rate during their thrilling IPL 2026 victory against Punjab Kings in Dharamsala. The IPL confirmed the penalty in an official statement, stating that as this was the team's first offense of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL's Code of Conduct regarding minimum over-rate offenses, Axar Patel was fined INR 12 lakhs.

Despite the fine, it was a memorable night for Delhi Capitals, who kept their slim playoff hopes alive with a dramatic three-wicket victory while chasing a target of 211 runs. Punjab Kings had posted a formidable total of 210 for 5, powered by strong knocks from Priyansh Arya (56) and captain Shreyas Iyer, who remained unbeaten on 59. Cooper Connolly also contributed a valuable 38 runs.

Delhi's chase got off to a shaky start as they slumped to 74 for 4, appearing to be in serious trouble. However, Axar Patel played a captain's innings, scoring 56 runs, while David Miller added a crucial 51 to bring Delhi back into contention. Youngsters Ashutosh Sharma and Madhav Tiwari then calmly finished the chase, guiding Delhi to 216 for 7 in 19 overs.
