Australia Women Level T20I Series With Commanding 19-Run Victory

Australia Women secured a crucial 19-run win over India Women in the second T20 International on Thursday, leveling the three-match series at 1-1. The victory was built on a dominant batting performance, highlighted by a record-breaking opening partnership.

Record Opening Stand Powers Australia to Competitive Total

Georgia Voll and Beth Mooney provided the foundation for Australia's innings with a spectacular 128-run opening partnership. This stands as Australia's highest first-wicket stand against India in women's T20 Internationals, surpassing the previous record of 115 runs set by Alyssa Healy and Mooney in Melbourne back in March 2020.

Voll was particularly aggressive, scoring 88 runs from just 57 deliveries. Her innings included 11 boundaries and one maximum, showcasing her ability to find gaps and punish loose deliveries. Mooney played the perfect supporting role with 46 runs from 39 balls, featuring four boundaries, before falling just short of a half-century.

The partnership finally ended in the 15th over when Mooney was caught at mid-on by Shafali Verma off Arundhati Reddy's bowling. Reddy emerged as India's most successful bowler, finishing with figures of 2/30 from her four overs, having dismissed both openers.

Australia finished their innings at 163 for 5, setting India a challenging target of 164 runs for victory.

India's Chase Starts Strong But Collapses Dramatically

India began their chase with positive intent, with openers Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana adding 54 runs during the powerplay overs. The partnership reached 65 for one by the ninth over, putting India in a promising position.

However, the momentum shifted dramatically when Sophie Molineux trapped Shafali leg-before for 29 off 23 balls. The dismissal triggered a collapse that saw India lose six wickets for just seven runs in the latter stages of their innings.

Captain Harmanpreet Kaur and Richa Ghosh provided some resistance with a 55-run partnership for the fourth wicket, but the mounting required run rate forced them to take risks. Harmanpreet fell for 36, caught by Molineux off Kim Garth's bowling on the second-last ball of the 17th over.

The collapse accelerated when Ghosh was stumped off Ashleigh Gardner's bowling just three balls later. Gardner then removed Deepti Sharma in the 18th over, leaving India reeling at 128 for six.

Australian Bowlers Share Wickets in Clinical Performance

Ashleigh Gardner led Australia's bowling attack with impressive figures of 3/22, playing a crucial role in India's late-innings collapse. She was well supported by Kim Garth, Annabel Sutherland, and captain Sophie Molineux, who each claimed two wickets.

The collective bowling effort restricted India to 144 for nine in their 20 overs, securing a 19-run victory for the hosts and setting up an exciting series decider.

Series Decider Looms at Adelaide Oval

With the series now level at one victory apiece, both teams will prepare for the decisive third T20 International scheduled for Saturday at Adelaide Oval. The match promises to be a thrilling contest as both sides seek to claim the series trophy.
