Former Pakistan fast bowling legend Shoaib Akhtar has publicly commended India's head coach Gautam Gambhir for his unwavering support of wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson. "He endured a prolonged wait for consistent opportunities due to the presence of established wicketkeepers like MS Dhoni and Dinesh Karthik. Even now, Gambhir has contended with everyone to integrate him into the team. Essentially, his selection was executed forcefully and after considerable scrutiny. He was not part of the tournament initially."
