Vaibhav Sooryavanshi had earlier become the first player to reach 400 runs this season, scoring a brilliant 43 off 16 balls to help Rajasthan Royals defeat Punjab Kings. That knock briefly put him at the top of the run charts.

However, Abhishek Sharma took it back within a day, smashing a quick 45 in the 244-run chase against Mumbai Indians at Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. Abhishek now leads the Orange Cap race with 425 runs in 9 matches. His teammate Heinrich Klaasen has risen to second place with 414 runs, after his explosive 65, which earned him the Player of the Match award as Sunrisers Hyderabad defeated Mumbai Indians by six wickets, registering their fifth consecutive win.
