Sharayu Ranjane of Pune and Greater Mumbai's Harshit Mahimkar took center stage at the Willingdon Sports Club, defeating higher-ranked opponents to advance to the girls' and boys' U-19 quarter-finals of the Yonex Sunrise State U-19 Badminton Selection tournament. The event is organized by the Greater Mumbai Badminton Association (GMBA), promoted by Badminton Gurukul, and hosted by Willingdon Sports Club.
Unseeded Sharayu played a superior game to oust fifth seed and city mate Navya Ranka with scores of 15-10, 15-13. Meanwhile, Mahimkar kept his composure in the deciding game to eliminate fourth seed Pranay Gadewar of Nagpur, winning 15-8, 9-15, 15-13.
Another upset was achieved by Aayush Adey of Pune, seeded 13th, who defeated eighth seed Nikshep Katre, also from Pune, with a score of 15-11, 15-12.
Top seed Yutika Chavan of Pune faced a tough challenge from unseeded Pranjal Shinde of Raigad before prevailing 15-10, 13-15, 15-8. Seventh seed Nishika Gokhe of Nagpur also had a scare, rallying to defeat Raigad's Gatha Suryawanshi 15-9, 10-15, 15-12.
Among the boys, top two seeds Arjun Aluguvelli (Mumbai Suburb) and Rutva Sajwan (Nagpur) cruised through their matches, staying on course for a potential showdown. Girls' second seed Ridheema Sarpate of Nagpur also won comfortably.
