Ayush Shetty's Triumphant Return to Badminton After Injury Setback
In late November, Bengaluru-based badminton player Ayush Shetty faced a significant hurdle when he sustained a back injury, severely disrupting his pre-season preparations. The 20-year-old athlete was advised to rest for approximately four weeks, putting his training on hold during a critical period.
Intensive Rehabilitation at the Centre for Badminton Excellence
Shetty underwent a rigorous rehabilitation program with his dedicated team of physios and trainers at the Centre for Badminton Excellence (CBE), formerly known as PPBA, in Bengaluru. Despite this setback, he made his season debut at the Malaysia Open in January, though concerns about his fitness persisted among observers and fans.
Overcoming Early-Season Struggles
The first quarter of the year proved challenging for the Mangaluru shuttler, as he suffered four first-round exits in various tournaments. However, by April, Shetty had transformed his performance, showcasing his best form at the BAC tournament. His ability to compete at the highest level without major back pain complaints highlighted his recovery progress.
Coach Sagar Chopda Praises Shetty's Resilience
Sagar Chopda, head coach at CBE, emphasized the impact of Shetty's rehabilitation period. "Due to his rehab, Ayush lost out on that critical period where other players could prepare for the 2026 season," Chopda told TOI. "Besides beating top players, he played back-to-back tough matches this week at the highest level and did not complain of any major back pain. Credit should also go to the trainers and physios."
Proving Elite Status and Boosting Confidence
Shetty, who clinched the US Open 300 title last year, has demonstrated that he belongs among the elite players on the international circuit. Chopda added, "With these big wins, his ranking will further improve. More importantly, it will act as a confidence booster." This success marks a significant milestone in Shetty's career, reinforcing his potential for future achievements in badminton.
