The deceased, identified as Baldev Singh from Chakk Sadian village, was actively preparing for recruitment in the Border Security Force (BSF) and Punjab Police when the tragedy occurred.
Sudden Collapse During Routine Training Session
Baldev Singh had gone for his regular morning run at the Rodawali village playground as part of his rigorous fitness regimen. According to eyewitness accounts, he suddenly felt dizzy and collapsed on the ground after completing approximately two rounds of running. His friend, Lakhwinder Singh, who had been called to the playground by Baldev, arrived to find him in distress.
Immediate medical attention was provided as he was rushed to a nearby clinic, but the attending doctor declared him brought dead upon arrival. The exact cause of death remains under investigation, though initial reports suggest possible cardiac-related complications.
Family Background and Aspirations
Baldev Singh came from a family with strong connections to national service. His brother currently serves in the Indian Army, while his father had passed away just one year earlier. The young aspirant lived with his mother in their village home, dedicating himself to securing a government position to support his family.
His uncle, Sikandar Singh, revealed that Baldev ran daily at the Rodawali ground as part of his preparation for government job recruitment exams. Beyond his career aspirations, Baldev was known to be actively involved in various sports activities within his community.
Pattern of Young Deaths in Sports Activities
This tragic incident represents the third such young death in sports-related activities in the Fazilka region within recent months, raising concerns about youth health and safety during physical exertion.
Previous incidents include:
- Harjit Singh, a young cricketer from Guru Har Sahai town, who died on June 29, 2025, after hitting a six during a cricket match in Ferozepur district. He suffered cardiac arrest on the pitch.
- Jasmit alias Jassu, a minor football player, who collapsed and died during a football match in Dharangwala village in Fazilka on January 18 of this year.
These consecutive tragedies have sparked discussions within the local sports community about implementing better medical facilities and emergency response protocols at sporting venues across rural Punjab.
The Fazilka district administration has been notified of the incident, and further investigations are expected to determine the precise medical circumstances surrounding Baldev Singh's untimely death. Community members have expressed deep sorrow over the loss of another promising young life in pursuit of athletic and career goals.
