Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Monday extended a grand reception and substantial financial rewards to the state's sporting heroes who brought laurels at recent international events. The felicitation ceremony, held in Chennai, saw the CM honouring medalists from the 7th Carrom World Cup and the SDAT Squash World Cup 2025.

At the event, the Chief Minister personally presented cheques and congratulated the triumphant athletes from the 7th Carrom World Cup held in the Maldives. He specifically lauded the performances of medal winners Keerthana, Kasima, and Mithra. In recognition of their stellar achievements on the global stage, Stalin announced a significant incentive package for these athletes.
The total financial reward announced for the carrom champions amounted to a substantial ₹1.90 crore. This move underscores the state government's commitment to promoting and supporting sporting talent at the highest levels.
Honouring Squash Stars on Home Turf
Beyond carrom, the Chief Minister also met and extended his congratulations to the winners of the SDAT Squash World Cup 2025, which was hosted in Chennai itself. The celebrated Indian squash players honoured included stalwarts and rising stars of the game:
- Joshna Chinappa
- Abhay Singh

- Velavan Senthilkumar
Their success in a premier tournament held within the state was a moment of particular pride, highlighting Tamil Nadu's growing stature as a hub for major sporting events.
Recognition for the State Sports Body
Adding another feather to the cap, the Tamil Nadu Sports Development Authority (SDAT) was also lauded during the ceremony. The authority recently received the prestigious Best State Promoting Sports Development award at the 3rd CII Sports Business Awards 2025 in New Delhi. This national recognition validates the state's structured efforts and policies in nurturing sports infrastructure and talent.

By rewarding success and investing in the ecosystem, Tamil Nadu aims to inspire a new generation of athletes and consolidate its position as a leading sports powerhouse in India.
