High hurdler Tejas Shirse, along with javelin throwers Rohit Yadav and Yashvir Singh, successfully achieved the 2026 Commonwealth Games (CWG) qualification mark during the ninth leg of the one-day Indian Athletics Series held in Ludhiana, Punjab, on Saturday.
Commonwealth Games 2026 Details
The 2026 Commonwealth Games are scheduled to take place in Glasgow, Scotland, from July 23 to August 2, 2026. The Ludhiana leg of the Indian Athletics Series served as the final domestic qualification event for athletes aiming to secure a spot for the CWG, as per a press release from the Athletics Federation of India (AFI).
Tejas Shirse Shines in 110m Hurdles
Tejas Ashok Shirse clocked an outstanding time of 13.27 seconds to win the men's 110m hurdles. His performance was better than the CWG qualification time of 13.39 seconds and also surpassed the previous national record of 13.41 seconds, which he had set in 2024.
Rohit Yadav and Yashvir Singh Excel in Javelin Throw
Rohit Yadav and Yashvir Singh both achieved the CWG qualification mark of 82.61 meters in the men's javelin throw. Rohit Yadav dominated the event with a first attempt of 83.76 meters, comfortably exceeding the qualification standard. Yashvir Singh finished second with a throw of 82.93 meters, while Shivam Lohakare secured third place with a throw of 80.52 meters.
