Historical Context and Previous Appearances in Chandigarh
This visit marks the second time in the past six months that the Surya Kiran Aerobatic Team has been in Chandigarh, highlighting the city's growing prominence as a venue for major aviation events. The team was last here in September 2025 for a ceremony marking the culmination of MiG-21 operational flying. Prior to that, they delighted Chandigarh residents during the Air Force Day flypast at Sukhna Lake in October 2022 and on several other occasions, building a strong legacy of memorable performances.

In preparation for the event, Sukhna Lake has been closed to the public until the afternoon of March 28. The air display is scheduled to take place between 10:30 AM and 11:30 AM on both March 27 and 28, with meticulous arrangements underway to ensure a smooth and safe experience. Chandigarh Deputy Commissioner Nishant Kumar Yadav outlined comprehensive security measures, including the deployment of approximately 1,300 Chandigarh Police personnel. To manage crowd flow and minimize congestion, arrival at Sukhna Lake will be strictly facilitated through Chandigarh Transport Undertaking (CTU) buses. These buses will pick up and drop off visitors from designated points across the city, with no private vehicles permitted near the lake. Attendees holding valid tickets for the event will receive wristbands, granting them access to their designated viewing zones, ensuring an organized and enjoyable experience for all.
