Football Superstar's Potential White House Meeting
Portuguese football legend Cristiano Ronaldo is expected to have a historic meeting with US President Donald Trump at the White House on Tuesday. This potential encounter is set to occur during President Trump's planned reception for Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
The Al Nassr forward from the Saudi Pro League will likely be part of the Saudi delegation visiting the White House. However, neither the White House nor Ronaldo's representatives have officially confirmed the football superstar's participation in the meeting.
Lavish Welcome Amid Controversial Background
This marks the Saudi Crown Prince's first visit to the United States since the 2018 murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi. President Trump is preparing an elaborate welcome ceremony for the prince that will include a military fly-by, a traditional gun salute, and an exclusive gala dinner.
The two nations are scheduled to sign significant defense and nuclear agreements during the high-profile visit, strengthening their strategic partnership. The event promises to be one of the most notable diplomatic gatherings at the White House in recent months.
Ronaldo's Long-Standing Admiration for Trump
In November 2005, during an interview with British journalist Piers Morgan, Ronaldo expressed his admiration for the US President. The five-time Ballon d'Or winner revealed that President Trump ranks among the few people he desperately wants to meet personally, though the opportunity had never presented itself until now.
"One of the most important people, of course, is the US President," Ronaldo stated during the interview, adding that Trump "can change the world." The football icon also hinted that he would reveal "something I share" with President Trump once their face-to-face meeting materialized.
Ronaldo recently secured his place at a record sixth World Cup as Portugal qualified for next year's tournament in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. Although he missed the qualification match in Porto due to suspension, his team ensured he would have another opportunity to compete for the one major title that has eluded him throughout his illustrious career.
The legendary footballer, who will be 41 when the tournament begins next June, has stated that this will likely be his final attempt at winning the World Cup, adding significance to what could be a career-defining year for the sports icon.
