Pune Grand Tour 2026 Inaugurated with Vision for Lasting Impact
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis officially launched the Pune Grand Tour 2026 on Saturday. He spoke at the inauguration ceremony held at the JW Marriott Hotel in Pune. The event also welcomed international cyclists to the city.
More Than Just a Cycling Event
Fadnavis emphasized that the Pune Grand Tour will transcend being a mere international competition. He described it as the creation of a foundational sporting legacy. This legacy, he stated, will benefit many future generations.
"The Bajaj Pune Grand Tour represents the future of Indian sport," Fadnavis declared. He highlighted the rapid development of infrastructure, noting that work completed in months would typically take decades. This pace of construction, he said, has not been seen in the last thirty years.
The Chief Minister framed the event as a long-term project. "This is not merely an event for today," he explained. "It is a pathway to a legacy envisioned 75 years ahead and beyond."
Pune's Unique Position on the Global Stage
Fadnavis painted a vivid picture of Pune district. He called it a confluence of history, culture, and modernity. Stories of valour, tradition, and culture can be experienced throughout the region, he added.
He pointed out that Pune is not just a cultural capital. It is also a leading hub for technology, manufacturing, and the IT sector. The natural beauty of the nearby Western Ghats will provide a unique dimension to the cycling competition.
The Chief Minister expressed strong confidence in the event's future. He believes it will quickly become a prestigious annual fixture on the global sports calendar. Through this, Pune district will gain prominent recognition on the international map for sports and tourism.
Building a Legacy for Centuries
Fadnavis stated that the 2026 tour is just the beginning. He sees it as the start of a path that will last for many centuries. Alongside the main competition, various complementary activities will be implemented.
These activities will give tourists special opportunities. They will be able to witness the region's natural beauty. They will also have the chance to explore the historical forts associated with Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by several prominent figures:
- Union Minister of State for Cooperation, Muralidhar Mohol.
