The championship, organized by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) and hosted by the University of Kashmir, saw participation from over 30 universities across the country. PU's rowing team, comprising both men and women, showcased exceptional skill and teamwork in various categories, including single sculls, double sculls, coxed four, and eight-oared shell events.

Men's Team Excellence

The men's team was particularly impressive, winning gold in the lightweight double sculls, coxed four, and eight-oared shell events. The crew of Gurjant Singh, Harpreet Singh, and others displayed remarkable synchronization and endurance. Women's Team Shines

The women's team also contributed significantly to the medal haul, winning gold in the coxed four and lightweight double sculls. The women's eight-oared shell team displayed grit and determination to edge out rivals from Punjab Agricultural University and the University of Delhi. Overall, the women's squad bagged 5 gold, 2 silver, and 1 bronze.

Record-Breaking Performance

This year's performance surpassed PU's previous best of 12 gold medals set in 2019. The university's director of sports, Dr. S.S. Bawa, credited the success to rigorous training and state-of-the-art facilities at the PU campus. "Our rowers have been training round the year, and this result is a testament to their hard work and the support from the university," he said.

The championship also saw strong performances from other universities, with the University of Mumbai finishing second with 8 gold medals, and the University of Calcutta taking third place with 5 golds. However, PU's consistent performance across all categories ensured they retained the overall trophy for the third consecutive year.

Future Prospects

With this victory, several PU rowers have now qualified for the national team trials for the upcoming Asian Rowing Championships. The university plans to send a contingent of 10 rowers for the trials, hoping to secure berths in the Indian squad. The vice-chancellor of PU, Prof. Raj Kumar, congratulated the team and assured continued support for sports infrastructure and training programs.
