Shillong: Celebrated sprinter and president of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), PT Usha, who arrived on her first visit to Shillong, was accorded a warm reception by the Meghalaya State Olympic Association (MSOA) at a hotel here.
The MSOA leadership expressed its gratitude to PT Usha for her “continued encouragement and guidance” towards strengthening the Olympic movement and sports ecosystem in Meghalaya and the North East region. “The interaction also focused on the collective vision for athlete development, infrastructure enhancement, and the hosting of the 39th National Games in Meghalaya in 2027,” an MSOA statement said. “The association reiterated its commitment to work closely with the Indian Olympic Association, the Government of Meghalaya, and all stakeholders to ensure that Meghalaya emerges as a leading sporting destination in the country,” the MSOA statement underscored.
This visit marks a significant step in fostering sports development in the region. The MSOA leadership, along with various sports officials, welcomed PT Usha and discussed the roadmap for elevating the state’s sports profile. The 39th National Games, scheduled to be held in Meghalaya in 2027, was a key topic of discussion, with both parties emphasizing the need for robust infrastructure and athlete support systems.
