"It is with immense sadness that we have to let you know that our kind, brave and beautiful son and brother Kai is no longer with us," the family wrote. After the avalanche, Kai was initially treated in Japan before the family managed to fly him back to Vancouver, where he received care at Vancouver General Hospital. However, the damage from oxygen deprivation during the incident proved too severe, leading doctors to confirm no chance of recovery.

"We are so glad to be able to tell you that Kai's heart is still beating in someone else and he is keeping 4 other people alive with his organs," they shared, offering some solace during this tragic time.

Instead of a traditional funeral, the family plans to honor Kai's memory with a "celebration of life" event in Whistler. They intend to invite friends and loved ones to gather, share stories, and remember his spirit. The statement concluded with a powerful tribute: "Kai truly lit up the world wherever he went and will be deeply missed."
