Surya Kiran Aero Show 2026 in Nashik Draws Massive Crowd of Over 50,000
The Surya Kiran Aero Show 2026, a spectacular event jointly organized by the Indian Air Force (IAF) and the Nashik district administration, captivated a massive audience of over 50,000 people at the scenic Gangapur Dam backwaters on Friday. After many residents missed the initial display on Thursday, citizens flocked to the site in large numbers, turning the event into both an aerial spectacle and a vibrant family outing amidst the picturesque surroundings.
Traffic Management and Aerial Commencement
Traffic leading to the dam was exceptionally heavy, with vehicles queued bumper-to-bumper along the narrow approach roads. However, the district authorities efficiently managed the congestion through elaborate parking arrangements, ensuring a smooth experience for attendees. The aerial display began at 12.15 pm after a brief delay caused by visibility concerns. Once the skies cleared, the Surya Kiran Aerobatic Team (SKAT) officers took to the air, showcasing their precision in various gravity-defying formations. The audience was left mesmerized by the power and grace of the iconic red-and-white jets as they performed intricate maneuvers overhead.
Student Participation and Corporate Support
A significant highlight of the day was the presence of thousands of students from remote corners of the Nashik district. MSRTC and private buses transported children from areas such as Peth, Surgana, Satana, Malegaon, Niphad, and Igatpuri—and even some from the neighboring Ahilyanagar district—to witness the show. Many of these students had their travel and ticketing costs sponsored by various companies through corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives, making the event accessible to a wider audience.
"It was incredible to see the fighter planes passing right over us. Even from our seats, we could see the intricate formations clearly on the massive screens set up across the venue," said Rajesh Borse, a Class V student from Satana. He was seated in Enclosure 8, one of several zones equipped with water stations and health kiosks to ensure comfort and safety for all attendees.
Community Picnic and Social Gathering
For many, the event transcended a mere air show, evolving into a grand community picnic. While some opted for ticketed enclosures, others watched from the open fields surrounding the designated parking zones. "I invited my brother all the way from Jalgaon for this; there are 13 of us here today," said Rajesh Bhangale, a Nashik resident. "We parked in the designated area and found a spot in the open fields. It has been an awesome experience. Now that the show is over, we are having lunch together while we wait for the traffic to clear."
The younger generation also turned out in large numbers, with groups of friends and colleagues seen capturing the moment on their phones. They made the most of this rare opportunity to see the Indian Air Force in action over their home city, creating lasting memories of a day filled with excitement and national pride.
