Nagpur's Flight Lieutenant Purvesh Duragkar: The IAF Officer Who Inspired Many
In the city of Nagpur, the story of Flight Lieutenant Purvesh Duragkar stands as a testament to unwavering dedication and passion for serving the nation. While he had successfully cleared all interviews for the Indian Air Force (IAF), Purvesh chose to appear before the Services Selection Board (SSB) for the army as well. This decision was driven by his deep commitment to the defense services, showcasing a remarkable level of determination.
A Passion for Flying and Defense
"Though flying was his passion, he did not want to miss a chance to appear for another interview, as long as it was for a job in the defence services," recalled a friend from his National Cadet Corps (NCC) days. This friend was with him during the SSB days, sharing, "We had a great time during the days at SSB." Purvesh's enthusiasm was infectious, leaving a lasting impact on those around him.
He was part of a group that quietly stood outside his home, hesitant to go inside, as they looked up to him as a role model. "Purvesh was our role model. He was the only one to join the IAF. Others dreamt, but none succeeded," said one friend. His guidance was sought by many; every time anyone headed for interviews, Purvesh was called for tips, highlighting his supportive nature.
Inspiring Friends and Peers
Iftesham Sayyid, who was Purvesh's junior in the NCC Air Wing, witnessed his fire and flare to fly firsthand. "He was keen on aeromodelling, and we were part of a camp in which he won a medal," Sayyid recalled. Like Purvesh, Sayyid also appeared before the SSB and now works in the IT sector, reflecting the diverse paths taken by those inspired by him.
Another friend, Aanchal Yadav, agreed that no one in their group was as passionate about joining the armed forces. "He was my batchmate, and his zeal inspired others," Yadav said. She too appeared for IAF interviews and is now in the IT sector, showing how Purvesh's influence extended beyond his own achievements.
Journey to Success
After schooling, Purvesh appeared for the National Defence Academy (NDA) but did not give up after facing failure. Later, after college, he opted for the direct entry scheme and got selected on the first attempt, as noted by a relative. His perseverance paid off, turning his dreams into reality.
In a private job and preparing for civil services, one of his friends remembered Purvesh often saying, "Zindagi maza hain" (life is fun), encapsulating his positive outlook. This attitude, combined with his passion for flying, made him a beacon of inspiration for many aspiring defense personnel in Nagpur and beyond.
