Mysuru: A multi-disciplinary sports complex is set to be developed on a sprawling 17-acre plot at Hanchya Sathagalli in Mysuru. The state government, during a recent cabinet meeting, approved the sanctioning of this land, which was identified by the Mysuru district administration.
Government Approval and Next Steps
Assistant Director of Youth Empowerment and Sports Affairs Bhaskar Nayak confirmed that the state government has now granted approval for the 17 acres required for the sports complex. He stated, "The department is awaiting the official order. With this, all obstacles to the project have been cleared. Soon, the department will float a global tender and commence the works."
Background of the Project
The state government had initially announced the establishment of a multi-disciplinary sports complex and a cycling velodrome project in the 2023-24 budget, allocating Rs 10 crore to promote cycling. However, the project faced delays over the past three years due to challenges in land identification. The Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports Affairs had urged the district administration to allocate at least 25 acres. Finally, in May this year, the state government approved the sanction of 17 acres at Hanchya Sathagalli to the sports department.
Planned Facilities
With the land now sanctioned, the sports department is preparing to develop the complex, which will include a variety of sports facilities:
- One football court
- Four shuttle badminton courts in an indoor stadium
- One basketball court in an outdoor stadium
- Four lawn tennis courts
- An aqua sports unit
- Wrestling and kho-kho facilities
- A football academy
- A cycling velodrome
- Other supporting infrastructure
The project aims to provide comprehensive sports amenities for the region, encouraging youth participation and promoting various sports disciplines.
