Isaac described July 3 as "a day that changed everything" when the scan results triggered what he called "life saving and season ending surgery." The young athlete kept his diagnosis private at the time and requested the Rays organization not to release details as he focused on recovery.
His final appearance with Double-A Montgomery came on June 25, leaving many to speculate that an elbow issue from spring training had resurfaced, when in reality he was facing a much graver situation.
