Kanpur witnessed a vibrant display of youthful energy as the seventh phase of the MP-MLA Sports Competitions was officially inaugurated in the Maharajpur Assembly constituency. The event, launched by Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly Speaker Satish Mahana on Sunday, marks a significant push for grassroots sports development across the state.
A Multisport Extravaganza for All Ages
Organised by the state's youth welfare department, the competitions are being held in schools and colleges within the Maharajpur constituency. The initiative features a wide array of 11 different sports, designed to cater to a diverse range of athletic talents. The sports roster includes athletics, kabaddi, volleyball, kho-kho, wrestling, weightlifting, tug-of-war, chess, judo, football, and badminton. Competitions are structured across junior, sub-junior, and senior categories for both male and female players, ensuring inclusive participation.
Sunday's Action and Notable Winners
The opening day events were concentrated at Axis College and Acharya Raghuveer Inter College, where several young athletes showcased their prowess. In track events, Antima Yadav clinched first place in the junior girls' 400-metre race, with Sarojini taking second. The sub-junior boys' 400m saw Arpit Kumar win gold, followed by Rishabh Pal.
On the kabaddi court, the Acharya Raghuveer Inter College team triumphed in the sub-junior category, while Bhaskaranand Inter College secured a win in the girls' category. The volleyball junior girls' category featured strong performances from players like Anshika Singh, Priya Yadav, and Saumya Vishwakarma.
Other standout results included Alina winning the girls' 100m race, Srishti topping the 800m, and Surya Pratap Singh winning the sub-junior 800m. The kho-kho girls' team, comprising Yashvi, Sonam, Nivedita, Shivani, Palak, Khushi, Janvi, and Anshika, emerged victorious. In the 200m races, Vivek Yadav and Naman Kushwaha were among the winners, and in the junior girls' 200m, Akanksha Yadav secured first place.
Encouraging Youth Participation and Future Events
Speaker Satish Mahana not only inaugurated the events but also took the time to distribute encouragement materials to members of the Yuvak Mangal Dal and Mahila Mangal Dal, wings of the youth welfare department. The competitions saw a robust turnout, with approximately 1,000 students participating from various local institutions including Acharya Inter College, Bhaskaranand Inter College, Allen House, Axis College, and Dayanand Vidya Niketan.
The sporting festival is set to continue its journey across the state. The next stop for the MP-MLA Sports Competition will be the Bithoor Assembly constituency, scheduled from December 8 to December 10. Organisers have urged all participants to ensure maximum registration of youth companions on the official MP Sports Festival portal to broaden the reach and impact of the initiative.
