In a move that underscores a turbulent collegiate career, quarterback Jaden Rashada has decided to enter the NCAA transfer portal once again. The former four-star recruit plans to seek his fourth college football program in early January 2026, following a challenging season with the Sacramento State Hornets.
A Career Defined by Change and Challenge
Jaden Rashada's path through college football has been anything but smooth. Hailing from California as a highly sought-after prospect, his journey first captured national attention due to a high-profile NIL dispute with the University of Florida. Reports confirmed that the Gators did not fulfill promised NIL agreements, leading Rashada to request a release from his national letter of intent.
He then joined Arizona State in 2023, earning the starting role for the first two games of his true freshman season. During that brief stint, he managed to throw for 485 yards, four touchdowns, and three interceptions before an injury cut his season short. After taking a redshirt year, Rashada transferred to the University of Georgia in 2024 but spent the season on the sidelines, unable to surpass Carson Beck on the depth chart.
The Sacramento State Gamble That Didn't Pay Off
In the spring of 2025, Rashada made a deliberate choice to move to the FCS level, joining Sacramento State. He was attracted by the program's ambitious plans under new head coach Brennan Marion and its anticipated push toward FBS status in 2026. However, the NCAA denied the school's waiver request in June 2025, leaving the Hornets as an independent program without a conference.
Speaking to CBS Sports about the decision, Rashada revealed his thought process: "It was a lot to figure out, honestly. This move had to be pretty critical and intentional. I was more picky this time around. I had more pure intentions of what I wanted to get out of it." He emphasized his love for the game, stating, "Most importantly, I missed the game. I wanted to play for a head coach who had my back and had a plan for me."
Unfortunately, the 2025 season did not unfold as hoped. Rashada started the season opener but suffered an injury against Nevada. Coach Marion subsequently turned to Cardell Williams, limiting Rashada to just five appearances. He finished the season with approximately 264 passing yards, one touchdown, and one interception.

With two years of eligibility remaining, Jaden Rashada remains an intriguing prospect in the transfer portal. His demonstrated arm talent and experience at Power conference schools like Arizona State and Georgia could attract programs in need of quarterback depth or a potential starter.
