Indian Racing Festival Finds New Home at Goa's Mopa Airport
The Indian Racing Festival has secured a fresh venue in Goa after facing initial hurdles. Organizers have confirmed the event will make its highly anticipated debut at Manohar International Airport in Mopa on February 14.
Venue Shift Due to Local Protests
State authorities originally selected Mormugao as the host location. However, strong opposition from local residents forced a postponement. This development prompted organizers to actively search for alternative sites across the state.
The festival now moves to the airport for its fourth season. This round follows the third championship event held at the Kari Motor Speedway in Coimbatore.
Specially Designed Street Circuit
Racing Promotions Private Limited, the company managing the Indian Racing Festival, revealed details about the new circuit on Saturday. They have created a unique FIA-grade street track spanning two kilometers.
The layout features twelve challenging turns. Organizers say this design will push teams and drivers to their limits while providing an exciting visual show for spectators.
"This one-of-a-kind circuit delivers a demanding technical challenge," a spokesperson stated. "It ensures accessibility and a high-quality experience for fans witnessing top-tier racing in Goa for the very first time."
Substantial Financial Investment
The total cost for hosting the festival reaches an estimated Rs 176.9 crore. The Goa government has committed a significant contribution of Rs 56.9 crore towards this amount.
Under the existing Memorandum of Understanding, Rs 27.9 crore will go directly to the organizers for operational support. The remaining funds will cover essential infrastructure development and related works.
Chief Minister's Strong Support
Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has expressed firm backing for the two-day motorsport spectacle. He believes an event of this magnitude highlights Goa's ability to organize world-class entertainment.
"Formula racing will drive tourism growth," Sawant emphasized. "It will create new opportunities for local businesses and service providers."
The Chief Minister also pointed to potential career pathways for young people. He mentioned fields like engineering, technology, event management, and motorsport operations.
"I commend Racing Promotions Private Limited for bringing an international motorsport event to Goa," he added. "We eagerly welcome teams, fans, and visitors from around the world to experience Goa's famous spirit of sport and hospitality."
Competition Format and Teams
Formula 4 serves as the entry-level category within the FIA's single-seater development ladder. The festival's fourth season will showcase six competing teams.
Each team follows a specific driver composition:
- One experienced international driver
- One emerging international or Indian-origin talent
- One domestic Indian driver
This structure aims to blend global expertise with local racing potential.
