Indian Junior Boxing Team Forced to Withdraw from Youth World Cup in Montenegro
A 10-member Indian junior boxing team has been compelled to withdraw from the Youth World Cup in Montenegro due to severe logistical disruptions stemming from the ongoing conflict in West Asia. Passport Stamp Delays Derail Participation
According to sources familiar with the situation, the boxers were unable to secure their stamped passports in time from the authorities, resulting in their no-show at the prestigious tournament. The Boxing Federation of India (BFI) processed the visas through the Montenegro Embassy in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), as Montenegro does not maintain an embassy in India.
The visa procedure mandated physical passport submission for stamping, and all passports were sent to the UAE well in advance. In previous instances, stamped passports were typically returned within two to three days, ensuring smooth travel arrangements for international competitions.
Political Turmoil in Middle East Causes Critical Delays
However, sudden political developments in the Middle East created unforeseen complications. Despite the visas already being stamped, the passports could not be dispatched back to India in time due to the escalating conflict and associated logistical logjams. The source emphasized that the BFI remained in constant communication with Montenegro authorities and the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) to resolve the issue, but to no avail.
"The passports for visa stamping were submitted on February 20, and flight tickets were kept on standby," the source revealed. "Visas were confirmed via email, but the physical documents were trapped in the delivery pipeline due to the regional instability."
