Indian Boxing Team Touches Down in Mongolia for High-Stakes Training Camp
India's top-tier men's and women's boxing contingent has officially arrived in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, to commence an intensive pre-tournament training camp. This strategic move is in preparation for the highly anticipated Asian Boxing Championships 2026, scheduled to take place from March 28 to April 11, 2026.
First Batch of Pugilists Begins Acclimatisation
The initial group of athletes, which includes some of India's most prominent boxers, has already reached the host nation. This batch features standout names such as Preeti (54 kg), Harsh Choudhary (90 kg), Jadumani Singh (55 kg), Sachin (60 kg), Deepak (70 kg), Ankushita Boro (65 kg), Arundhati Choudhary (70 kg), Jaismine (57 kg), and the celebrated Nikhat Zareen (51 kg). Accompanied by members of the support staff, they are set to begin their acclimatisation phase immediately, adjusting to the local conditions to optimize performance.
Collaborative Training and Qualification Stakes
During the camp, the Indian contingent will engage in collaborative training sessions with participants from other nations. This international exposure is crucial as they gear up for the continental event, where the stakes are exceptionally high. Winners at the Asian Boxing Championships will secure direct qualification for the upcoming Asian Games and Commonwealth Games later this year, adding significant pressure and motivation for the athletes.
Second Batch and Sparring Partners to Join
A second batch of athletes and support staff is slated to depart for Mongolia on March 15, 2026, to join the ongoing camp. In a strategic enhancement to the team's preparations, the camp also includes second-ranked boxers in Olympic weight categories and first-ranked boxers in non-Olympic weight categories. These additional pugilists are present to provide quality sparring and bolster the squad's training intensity. They will train alongside the main contingent during the build-up phase and are scheduled to return to India on March 28, 2026.
This comprehensive training approach underscores India's commitment to excelling at the Asian Boxing Championships and beyond, with a focus on rigorous preparation and international collaboration.
