Haryana Tops National Para Athletics Championship with 90 Medals

Haryana delivered a stellar performance at the 24th National Para Athletic Championship, clinching the overall trophy with an impressive haul of 90 medals. The championship, organized by the Paralympic Committee of India and Para Sports Association of Odisha, took place in Odisha from March 17 to March 21, 2026.

Outstanding Team Effort

A contingent of 144 members from Haryana, comprising 121 players and 23 escorts, participated in the event. The team was led by Team Manager Surender Singh and coach Jatin Bhati, who guided the athletes to success. Haryana's medal tally included 36 gold, 29 silver, and 25 bronze medals, showcasing their dominance in para sports.

Notable Medal Winners

Among the standout performers, international para athlete Pranav Surma won gold in the club throw event. In javelin throw, Navdeep, Rinku Hooda, and Sumit secured gold medals, while Dharmbir and Tekchand also claimed gold in club throw. Ankur Dhama added to the gold rush with a victory in the 1500m race.

On the women's side, Pooja Yadav earned a medal in club throw, and Kanchan Lakhani excelled in javelin throw. Other medalists included Usha, Mafi, Bhuvi Agrawal, Dayawanti, Preeti, Pooja, and Laxmi, highlighting the depth of talent in Haryana's para athletic team.

Recognition and Consistency

Congratulating the winning team, Haryana Health Minister and President of the Para Sports Association of Haryana, Arti Singh Rao, praised the players for consistently showcasing remarkable talent across various sports. She noted that this victory follows Haryana's win in the championship last year, underscoring the state's ongoing commitment to para athletics excellence.
