The East Zone Inter-University Women's Basketball Championship kicks off this Friday at Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gorakhpur University. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath will officially inaugurate the exciting tournament.

Thirty-one universities from eleven different states are competing in this championship. The event marks a significant return, as the university last hosted an inter-university competition six years ago.
Tournament Schedule and Format
The five-day championship features a packed schedule. Organizers plan eight matches each for the first three days. Six matches will follow on the fourth day, with four matches concluding the event on the final day.
Teams are divided into four pools. Pools A, B, and D each contain eight teams. Pool C consists of seven teams, ensuring competitive play across all groups.
Officials and Opening Match
The Uttar Pradesh Basketball Association has appointed twelve referees for the championship. All referees have already arrived in Gorakhpur to oversee the games.
The opening match will see Veer Bahadur Singh Purvanchal University from Jaunpur face off against Vinoba Bhave University from Hazaribagh. This match sets the tone for the entire tournament.
University Pride and Statements
University Vice-Chancellor Prof Poonam Tandon expressed great pride in hosting the championship. She emphasized the honor and prestige associated with organizing such a major sporting event.
Rajveer Singh, secretary of the university's sports council, confirmed the six-year gap since the last inter-university competition at their venue. He highlighted the university's commitment to promoting sports and providing excellent facilities for athletes.
