After Formula E's social media admin asked the drivers to name who among them could be part of their own football team, the final lineup has now been revealed. As the FIFA World Cup kicked off this weekend, Formula E drivers were asked to nominate drivers for various positions. While Edoardo Mortara was the first choice in defence thanks to his tall and strong physique, Oliver Rowland was picked for midfield. Here is the final lineup approved by the admin if Formula E drivers were ever to take to the football pitch.
Formula E Drivers Get Roles in Football Team Lineup
The team lineup was shared by Formula E on Instagram with the caption: "Your #FIFAWC2026 team news is in." Pascal Wehrlein had nominated himself for the striker role, and he did earn his place in the final lineup. Joining him up front was Andretti driver Felipe Drugovich. In midfield were Nissan driver Oliver Rowland and Cupra Kiro driver Dan Ticktum in the centre, with Lola Yamaha ABT's Zane Maloney on the left and Nissan's Norman Nato on the right. In central defence, Mahindra Racing's Edoardo Mortara and Porsche's Nico Muller were selected thanks to their height. Cupra Kiro rookie Pepe Marti took the left-back position, while Jaguar TCS Racing's Mitch Evans was named at right-back. Andretti's Jake Dennis was chosen as goalkeeper because of his height. Formula E veteran Lucas di Grassi was given the role of team manager for his leadership qualities.
Substitutes and Reserve Players
The remaining drivers were named among the substitutes. Envision Racing's Sebastien Buemi was selected as the reserve goalkeeper, while Jaguar TCS Racing's Antonio Felix da Costa and Envision Racing's Joel Eriksson were named as substitute central midfielders. DS Penske driver Maximilian Gunther was picked as the substitute striker. Nyck de Vries, Jean-Eric Vergne, Nick Cassidy and Taylor Barnard were also assigned different substitute roles.
Fans React to Formula E Football Team
Reacting to the lineup, one fan wrote: "I want to have them compete against F1 drivers who have fielded a starting eleven in the same project." Another commented: "The best World Cup team, for sure." A third wrote: "Love this World Cup line-up." While the fantasy team is yet to become a reality, the Formula E drivers will soon return to action in Round 11 in China. The Sanya E-Prix is scheduled for 20 June.
