Chandigarh's Pencak Silat Athletes Make a Mark at National Championship
Chandigarh continues to establish itself as a growing hub for Pencak Silat, with the city's athletes showcasing remarkable talent and determination at the recent 3rd All India Pencak Silat Championship 2025–26. The prestigious event was held in Dehradun, Uttarakhand, from January 29 to 31, drawing competitors from across the nation.
Medal-Winning Performances Across Categories
Chandigarh's competitors impressed judges and spectators alike, returning home with a haul of medals that underscores their rising prowess in this martial art. In the sub-junior Tanding (–66 kg) category, Daksh Mahajan demonstrated exceptional grit and technical skill to secure a well-deserved silver medal. Adding to the city's glory, Yadwinder Chauhan earned a bronze medal in the senior boys' Tanding (–95 kg) category, highlighting the depth of talent in Chandigarh's Pencak Silat community.
Team Events Bring Further Success
The success extended beyond individual categories, with Chandigarh teams achieving podium finishes in the team events. The senior men's Regu team, composed of Himanshu, Sahil, and Dhruv, clinched a bronze medal through coordinated effort and strategy. Similarly, the senior women's Regu trio—Aanandita Singh Mankotia, Anuhar Kaur, and Sehaj Kaur—matched this achievement with a bronze medal of their own, showcasing the strength of female athletes in the sport.
Officials Credit Training and Commitment
Officials from Chandigarh's Pencak Silat association attributed this success to improved training standards and increasing commitment among local athletes. Team coach Parminder Singh, women's coach Vandna, manager Pooja, and general secretary Bharat Bhushan (Lali) congratulated the players, praising their discipline, rigorous preparation, and sportsmanship throughout the championship.
Looking Ahead to Future Competitions
Bharat Bhushan revealed that the association is now gearing up for the Senior National Pencak Silat Championship, scheduled to take place later this year in Meghalaya. He also shared exciting news for the sport's future in India, announcing that the country will host the 1st Commonwealth Pencak Silat Championship in Ahmedabad in September. This development is expected to further boost the profile of Pencak Silat and inspire more athletes in Chandigarh and beyond.
