In a historic achievement for India, two all-women mountaineering teams from the Border Security Force (BSF) and the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) successfully summited Mount Everest on May 21, 2026. The ITBP team, comprising 11 women climbers, reached the summit via the South Col Route, with the first summit at 0652 hours. The BSF team, under Mission Vande Mataram, also scripted history by conquering the world's highest peak.

ITBP's All-Women Expedition

The ITBP's first-ever all-women expedition summited Mount Everest, which stands at 8,848 meters. BSF's Mission Vande Mataram

The BSF's all-women mountaineering team also made history under Mission Vande Mataram. The team's successful summit was announced on May 21, 2026. Union Home Minister Amit Shah congratulated the team, stating that they 'scripted golden history' by summiting Everest. He highlighted that the feat was achieved during the Diamond Jubilee celebration of the force, and the climbers sang Vande Mataram at the summit.
