Bangladesh women's cricket team captain Nigar Sultana Joty has received an official reprimand for a Level 1 breach of the ICC Code of Conduct during the third T20I against Sri Lanka in Sylhet on Saturday.
According to an ICC release, Nigar was found to have violated Article 2.2 of the Code, which relates to "abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment, or fixtures and fittings during an international match." The incident occurred during Bangladesh's innings when, after getting out, Nigar threw her bat on the ground before leaving the field.
She has also been given one demerit point, which is her first offence in a 24-month period. "Nigar admitted the offence and accepted the sanction, so there was no need for a formal hearing," said the ICC in its statement on Monday.
The charge was brought by on-field umpires Eloise Sheridan and Shathira Jakir Jesy, along with third umpire Rokeya Sultana and fourth umpire Champa Chakma. The match referee was Supriya Rani Das from the Emirates ICC International Panel. For Level 1 offences, the penalty can range from an official reprimand to a fine of up to 50 per cent of the match fee, along with one or two demerit points.
Series Outcome
In the three-match T20I series, Sri Lanka women defeated Bangladesh 3-0. They won the first T20I by 25 runs and the second by 21 runs. The third match was reduced to nine overs per side due to rain, where Sri Lanka clinched a narrow three-run victory.
This reprimand serves as a reminder of the importance of maintaining discipline on the field. Nigar's acceptance of the sanction without a formal hearing reflects her acknowledgment of the breach.
