Andretti Formula E Unveils Rookie Lineup for Madrid Test

In a much-anticipated announcement, the Andretti Formula E Team has confirmed its rookie drivers for the upcoming Madrid Rookie Test. The team will field two promising talents: Freddie Slater, who will make his Formula E debut, and Callum Voisin, returning for his second run in the all-electric series.

Rookie Duo Set to Shine at Jarama Circuit

The test is scheduled for Sunday, March 22, at the Circuito del Jarama in Madrid, Spain, following the inaugural Madrid E-Prix on March 21. Andretti shared the news via an Instagram post featuring a poster of Slater and Voisin, captioned: “Rookie line-up? Assembled. @freddieslater27 and @callumvoisin will represent Andretti Formula E Team at the upcoming Madrid Rookie Test on 22nd March.”

This announcement marks Andretti as the final team to reveal its participants for the rookie test, adding excitement to the event.

Callum Voisin: Building on Past Experience

Callum Voisin, who previously drove for Cupra Kiro at the Berlin Rookie Test last year, expressed enthusiasm about joining Andretti. “I’m very excited to be joining Andretti Formula E for this year's rookie test,” Voisin said. “It will be my first time driving with Andretti and at the Jarama Circuit in Madrid, so I’m very much looking forward to the opportunity. I had a positive test last year at the Berlin Rookie Test, so I can't wait to build on what’s been a fun and different experience compared to what I’m used to.”

Voisin, the 2022 GB3 Championship winner, will pilot the GEN3 Evo car for the second time. Cupra Kiro humorously responded to the news on Instagram, commenting: “First you steal our livery, now our drivers? We’re honoured.”

Freddie Slater: Young Talent Making His Debut

At just 17 years old, Freddie Slater is set to become one of the youngest drivers ever to participate in a Formula E test. Despite his youth, Slater boasts an impressive racing resume, including being part of the Audi Driver Development Programme and competing in the Formula 3 Championship with Trident Motorsport.

His achievements include winning 15 out of 20 races in the Italian F4 Championship, along with victories in the 2020 World Championship and European Championship. Slater shared his excitement: “Obviously, I'm very excited to get my first taste of Formula E machinery. It's been something I've been looking forward to for a while now, having always wanted the opportunity to drive an all-electric race car. The Andretti name is incredibly iconic in motorsport, so having the opportunity to work with such a historic and successful organisation means a lot.”

Test Details and Broader Context

The Madrid Rookie Test provides a crucial platform for emerging drivers to showcase their skills in Formula E’s high-performance electric vehicles. Andretti’s selection of Slater and Voisin highlights the team’s commitment to nurturing young talent in the rapidly evolving world of motorsport.

This event follows other rookie test announcements, such as Kush Maini returning for Mahindra Racing and Daniil Kvyat driving for DS Penske, underscoring the global appeal and competitive nature of Formula E.

As the electric racing series continues to grow, tests like these play a vital role in developing future stars and advancing automotive innovation.
