Ahmedabad Unveils Major Sports Infrastructure Ahead of 2030 Commonwealth Games
In a significant development for sports enthusiasts and residents alike, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has announced the completion of four cricket grounds alongside an international-level football stadium in Vastral. This initiative is part of the city's comprehensive preparations for hosting the prestigious Commonwealth Games in 2030.
State-of-the-Art Sports Facilities Take Shape
Devang Dani, chairman of the AMC's standing committee, revealed these details during a media briefing following a committee meeting on Friday. The newly constructed football ground at the Vastral Sport Complex measures an impressive 105 meters by 68 meters and is equipped with two fixed balls and two movable poles to facilitate versatile training sessions.
Adjacent to this football field, a 400-meter grass running track has been meticulously constructed, complemented by a synthetic long jump track. A storm water drainage system has also been installed to ensure the facility remains functional during the monsoon season, highlighting the AMC's attention to detail in infrastructure planning.
Dani emphasized that these facilities are designed not only for elite athletes but also to encourage local youth from Ahmedabad and Gujarat to actively participate in sports. This aligns with the national Fit India campaign, promoting physical fitness and wellness across communities.
Traffic Management Enhanced with AI Technology
Beyond sports infrastructure, the AMC is addressing urban challenges with innovative solutions. With vehicular traffic on the rise, the corporation is undertaking projects to construct over bridges, under bridges, and wall-to-wall roads to improve connectivity.
More notably, over 100 traffic signals and junctions will be upgraded using artificial intelligence (AI) technology. This system will coordinate with local police to optimize traffic flow, reduce congestion, and enhance safety on Ahmedabad's roads. Dani assured that left turns will be made free at numerous locations to further ease movement.
Water Supply Boost for Growing Areas
In response to water shortages in rapidly developing zones, the AMC has secured an additional 468 million liters per day (MLD) of Narmada water. This supply will benefit approximately 18-20 lakh residents in the North-West, South-West, and West Zones of Ahmedabad, where vertical construction has increased demand.
The decision follows a presentation to Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah and Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel. Areas such as Gota, Vastrapur, Thaltej, Abadhapur, Sola, Jodhpur, and Vejalpur are set to receive increased water quantities, addressing critical needs in these burgeoning neighborhoods.
As Ahmedabad gears up for the 2030 Commonwealth Games, these multifaceted developments underscore the city's commitment to fostering sports excellence, improving urban infrastructure, and ensuring sustainable resource management for its residents.
