Yogi Adityanath Credits Political Shift for Lucknow's Remarkable Urban Transformation
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath declared on Wednesday that the removal of political obstacles has paved the way for significant change and enhanced governance in Uttar Pradesh. He emphasized that through nine years of dedicated reconstruction efforts, Lucknow has now ascended to become one of the top three cleanest cities across the entire nation.
Launch of Electric and CNG Vehicles for Enhanced Waste Management
Flagging off a fleet of 250 electric and CNG vehicles to strengthen door-to-door waste collection services in the city, the Chief Minister drew a stark contrast with the pre-2017 era. He described that period as marked by pervasive darkness, widespread insecurity, and critically poor sanitation conditions. Adityanath directly accused previous governments of lacking the genuine intent to improve fundamental services such as reliable electricity supply and proper urban upkeep.
An official clarified that these new vehicles will be strategically deployed in localities that have, until now, not received daily waste collection services. This gap was primarily due to the breakdown and damage of several vehicles within the existing municipal fleet.
Post-2017 Improvements in Sanitation and Public Health
Addressing the gathering at the event, Yogi Adityanath stated that the state witnessed a dramatic turnaround in sanitation standards and public infrastructure following the political shift in 2017. He asserted that concerted improvements in sanitation and proactive waste management have directly contributed to better public health outcomes. Notably, there has been a measurable decline in the incidence of diseases such as encephalitis, dengue, and malaria across the region.
"Before 2017, the city was universally associated with darkness, insecurity, and poor sanitation," the Chief Minister reiterated, underscoring the extent of the transformation.
Strategic Push Towards Net-Zero Goals with Solar and EV Focus
Yogi Adityanath outlined that Uttar Pradesh is decisively moving towards ambitious net-zero environmental goals. Electric mobility and large-scale solar energy adoption form the cornerstone of this strategic vision. He cited the aggressive expansion of the rooftop solar scheme and concerted efforts to develop major cities, including Ayodhya and Lucknow, as prominent solar energy hubs.
Under the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, rooftop solar panels have been successfully installed in more than 4.25 lakh homes throughout Uttar Pradesh. This initiative is already generating approximately 1,500 MW of clean electricity and has effectively reduced household electricity bills by more than half for beneficiaries.
Comprehensive Overhaul of Urban Infrastructure and Connectivity
The Chief Minister also highlighted sweeping changes in urban infrastructure. These include the complete transition to energy-efficient LED street lighting, the significant expansion of metro rail services, and vastly improved regional connectivity. Lucknow, he noted, has experienced growth across multiple sectors, notably emerging as a central hub for electric mobility and advanced manufacturing.
An electric bus manufacturing unit is already operational in the state, and commercial electric vehicle production is scheduled to commence at another major facility starting April 15. Furthermore, the state has expanded metro services to connect multiple cities, while electric bus networks are being scaled up to link urban centers with their surrounding satellite towns.
Integrated Smart City Initiatives and Environmental Renewal
Yogi Adityanath referred to broader urban development initiatives, including the establishment of integrated command and control centers equipped with extensive CCTV coverage across cities. Ongoing efforts are focused on expanding solar power infrastructure on a massive scale.
"Through the joint efforts of the state and central governments, 17 municipal corporations and the Noida-Greater Noida region have been connected to integrated command and control centers with extensive CCTV coverage. These areas are now being systematically developed as model solar cities," he explained.
The sacred city of Ayodhya, deeply associated with Lord Rama, has already been developed as a fully functional solar city. Similar transformative work is actively underway in Lucknow through the widespread installation of solar panels on public and private buildings.
The Chief Minister also cited specific environmental and urban renewal projects, such as the redevelopment work on the Gomti riverfront and the creation of "Saumitra Van" in the Kukrail forest area, as integral parts of the city's green makeover and commitment to sustainable development.
