Yamini Jadhav Secures BMC Victory After Lok Sabha and Assembly Defeats
In a significant political turnaround, former MLA Yamini Jadhav has won the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) election. This victory comes after her losses in the 2024 Lok Sabha and Maharashtra assembly elections. Contesting from Ward No 209 in Byculla on a Shiv Sena ticket, Jadhav now aims for a prominent position within the BMC under the leadership of Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.
A Seasoned Politician Returns to Civic Politics
Yamini Jadhav brings considerable experience to her new role. She previously served as a Corporator and is the wife of Yashwant Jadhav, the former chairman of the civic Standing Committee. Her political career spans local governance, making her a familiar face in Mumbai's civic affairs.
Speaking after her win, Jadhav expressed confidence in her campaign. "We never feared defeat in the Lok Sabha and assembly polls," she stated. "We were confident about winning the BMC elections. We extend our gratitude to CM Devendra Fadnavis and DCM Eknath Shinde for their trust and confidence in us."
She attributed her success to public support for the MahaYuti government's development work. "People voted for the development initiatives undertaken by the MahaYuti government," Jadhav explained. "I addressed all key issues affecting Byculla residents, and I will continue this work. We follow party orders without specific expectations."
Husband Calls for Party Recognition
Yashwant Jadhav, her husband, emphasized the need for the Shiv Sena to acknowledge their efforts. "We thank the people of Byculla for their support and this victory," he said. "Now, the party must recognize our work and assign us meaningful responsibilities. Justice should be served to genuine workers who faced opposition and won against odds. It is time the party gives us our due recognition."
Potential Leadership Role in BMC
Shiv Sena functionaries indicate that Yamini Jadhav may pursue the Chairperson position of a statutory civic committee. Her seniority as a former Corporator and MLA strengthens her candidacy for such a role. This move would place her in a influential position within Mumbai's municipal governance structure.
Other Notable Wins in Mumbai
In Worli, Vanita Narwankar secured victory from Ward No 197. She is the wife of former Shiv Sena Corporator Datta Narwankar. Notably, Vanita is one of the few Shinde-led Sena candidates to win in Worli, which is the constituency of Sena (UBT) MLA Aaditya Thackeray. This result highlights the competitive dynamics within the party across different Mumbai wards.
The BMC election outcomes reflect ongoing political realignments and local voter sentiments in Mumbai. With experienced figures like Yamini Jadhav returning to civic roles, the focus now shifts to how these leaders will shape municipal policies and development projects in the coming term.
