A tragic incident unfolded in Hazaribag district on Saturday morning. Tetri Devi, a 50-year-old woman from Barwadih village, lost her life during her routine morning walk. A tipper truck struck her around 5:30 am in the Barkagaon block area. The impact proved fatal, and the driver immediately fled the scene, leaving the community in shock.

Locals Express Anger Through Road Blockade

Outraged by the accident, local residents took swift action. They blocked the road at 13 Mile, a key transportation route. This protest lasted for an impressive 11 hours. The blockade brought all vehicular movement to a complete halt. It specifically disrupted operations at the nearby NTPC coal mine.

Coal Transport Grinds to a Standstill

The roadblock had immediate and severe consequences for industrial activity. Over 120 trucks belonging to NTPC, all loaded with coal, found themselves stranded. These vehicles could not move an inch. The transportation of coal from the mine stopped entirely. This caused significant logistical and economic disruptions for the power company.

Compensation Announced for the Victim's Family

In response to the tragedy, authorities have stepped in. Circle Officer Manoj Kumar addressed the situation publicly. He announced that NTPC will provide financial support to the grieving family. The company has pledged compensation of Rs 8 lakh for the deceased. Furthermore, NTPC will offer employment to two members of Tetri Devi's family. This gesture aims to provide some long-term security following their devastating loss.
