Tragic Road Mishap Claims Life of Woman in Himachal Pradesh

According to police reports, the tragedy unfolded last evening around 7:20 PM. A speeding truck, coming from the direction of Jharmajri Chowk, attempted to overtake a two-wheeler. In a horrifying turn of events, the truck rammed into the scooty, causing both riders to be thrown from the vehicle.
The male rider, identified as Vinod Pandey, fell onto a tiled pavement nearby, sustaining injuries to his shoulder and head. Tragically, his wife, Kiran Pandey, who was riding pillion, fell directly onto the road. The truck driver, failing to stop after the initial impact, proceeded to crush Kiran's head under the front wheel of the vehicle, leading to her instantaneous death at the scene.
Aftermath and Police Action
Following the accident, the truck driver managed to flee the spot, abandoning the scene in a cowardly act. Local authorities were promptly alerted, and the injured Vinod Pandey, along with the deceased Kiran Pandey, were rushed to a community health centre in Baddi for emergency treatment. Medical personnel at the centre pronounced Kiran brought dead upon arrival, while Vinod received necessary medical attention for his injuries.
The Barotiwala police have registered a formal case against the absconding truck driver. The charges include violations under Sections 281, 125(A), and 106 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which pertain to rash and negligent driving that endangers human life and causing death by negligence. Additionally, Section 187 of the Motor Vehicle Act has been invoked. Police officials have confirmed that intensive efforts are underway to trace and apprehend the driver, who remains at large.
