Political Rally Noise Severely Disrupts Class 10 Board Exams in Trichy
A political campaign led by TVK chief Vijay at Marakkadai junction on Thursday created major disturbances for Class 10 public examinations being conducted at a nearby government school. Approximately 175 students were attempting their crucial social science paper during this disruptive event.
Examination Schedule Clashes With Political Gathering
The social science examination was scheduled between 10:00 AM and 1:15 PM at Syed Murtaza Government Higher Secondary School, located in close proximity to the campaign venue. Despite prior warnings and petitions from school authorities, the political event proceeded as planned.
Students reported significant noise pollution throughout the examination period. Loudspeakers blaring campaign songs and enthusiastic cheering from supporters created a challenging environment for concentration. The situation reached its peak when Vijay himself addressed the gathering between 12:35 PM and 12:55 PM, directly coinciding with the final crucial minutes of the examination.
School Authorities Had Raised Concerns in Advance
School officials had proactively submitted formal petitions to both local police and district administration authorities, requesting measures to ensure a disturbance-free environment for the important public examinations. An official from the school expressed disappointment, stating, "Despite our repeated requests and formal petitions, the campaign proceeded without adequate noise control measures. The noise levels remained unacceptably high throughout the examination duration."
Police Intervention Proved Ineffective
Police personnel present at the campaign location attempted to regulate the crowd and urged supporters to maintain silence during the examination hours. However, these efforts proved largely ineffective as the noise from the political gathering continued unabated. The failure to control the disturbance has raised questions about enforcement of noise regulations during important academic events.
The incident highlights the ongoing conflict between political activities and educational priorities in public spaces. Students appearing for their Class 10 board examinations, a critical milestone in their academic careers, faced unnecessary additional stress due to the noise pollution from the adjacent political campaign.
