VCK President Thol Thirumavalavan Addresses Speculation Over MLA Aloor Shanavas' Non-Renomination
In a video message released on Wednesday, VCK president Thol Thirumavalavan sought to clarify the party's decision not to renominate sitting Nagapattinam MLA Aloor Shanavas, asserting that there was no hidden agenda behind the move. The statement comes amid growing speculation within political circles in Tamil Nadu.
Seat Allocation and Internal Party Dynamics
Thirumavalavan revealed that Shanavas was initially the party's first choice for the Nagapattinam constituency, and he had personally fixed the seat for him. However, the situation became complicated when Shanavas expressed interest in shifting to Royapuram instead. The alliance lead, DMK, was reportedly open to this proposal, but the matter did not progress further.
Later, Shanavas sought to contest from Pallavaram, but this request could not be accommodated as the Pallavaram seat had already been allotted to the DMDK as part of the alliance's seat-sharing agreement. Thirumavalavan explained the broader context of seat negotiations, stating, "We had asked for Harur and Pallavaram but were instead allotted Arakkonam and Panruti. I wanted to field Shanavas, but Abdul Rahman also pressed his case. So, I gave Rahman an opportunity in Panruti."
Denial of Any Hidden Agenda
Emphatically denying any ulterior motives, Thirumavalavan added, "There is no agenda to deny Shanavas an opportunity." He emphasized that the decision was purely based on practical constraints and internal party considerations, rather than any personal or political vendetta. This clarification aims to quell rumors and maintain unity within the VCK and the broader alliance ahead of upcoming electoral challenges.
Shanavas' Response and Party Loyalty
Earlier, Aloor Shanavas had commented on the situation, stating that "the leadership would decide who contests, when and how." He affirmed his commitment to the party and alliance, saying he would accept the leadership's decision and work diligently for the victory of the party and its allies.
