In a significant boost to Uttar Pradesh's law enforcement capabilities, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has declared a policy of zero tolerance towards crime while inaugurating the newly upgraded Regional Forensic Science Laboratory in Gorakhpur.
Major Infrastructure Boost for Forensic Capabilities
The Chief Minister inaugurated the ambitious upgrade project valued at ₹72.78 crore, transforming the Gorakhpur facility into an A-Class laboratory. This substantial investment represents the state government's commitment to strengthening the scientific backbone of criminal investigations.
CM Yogi emphasized that the enhanced forensic capabilities would revolutionize modern policing methods in the state. The upgraded laboratory is expected to significantly reduce investigation timelines and improve the accuracy of evidence analysis, ensuring that criminals face swift and strict consequences for their actions.
Expanding Forensic Network Across Uttar Pradesh
The inauguration ceremony highlighted the remarkable expansion of forensic infrastructure in Uttar Pradesh over the past eight years. Before 2017, the state had only four forensic laboratories serving its massive population and geographical area.
Today, that number has tripled to 12 operational forensic labs, with an additional six facilities currently under construction. This massive expansion represents one of the most significant upgrades to forensic infrastructure in any Indian state in recent years.
Strengthening Police Force and Crime Prevention
Parallel to the infrastructure development, the state government has undertaken massive recruitment to strengthen its police force. Over the past eight years, 2.19 lakh police personnel have been recruited across various ranks and positions.
CM Yogi reiterated his government's firm stance on law and order during the event. "The new Uttar Pradesh has zero tolerance for crime," he stated emphatically. "Criminals will face strict consequences under our administration."
The combination of enhanced forensic capabilities and increased police manpower is expected to create a formidable deterrent against criminal activities across the state. The Gorakhpur laboratory upgrade, completed on November 18, 2025, marks another milestone in the state's journey toward modernized and efficient law enforcement.
