Uttar Pradesh Achieves Landmark Power Sector Reforms
In a significant announcement in the state Assembly, Uttar Pradesh Power Minister AK Sharma revealed that Uttar Pradesh stands as the sole state in India that has not increased electricity tariffs over the past six years. This declaration highlights a major policy achievement under the current government, aimed at providing financial relief to consumers across the state.
Uninterrupted Quality Power Supply Across Urban and Industrial Areas
Minister Sharma further emphasized that for the first time in the history of Uttar Pradesh, 24-hour, uninterrupted, fluctuation-free, and high-quality power is being supplied to most towns, cities, district headquarters, and industrial areas. This development marks a transformative shift in the state's power infrastructure, addressing long-standing issues of erratic electricity availability and improving the quality of life for residents and businesses alike.
Record-Breaking Agricultural Connections Issued
Sharma provided compelling statistics on agricultural power connections, stating that from 1947 to 2017, only 10 lakh agricultural connections were provided over 70 years. In contrast, the current government has issued over 15 lakh new farmer connections in the last eight years, with half of these connections granted in the past three years alone. This rapid expansion underscores a focused effort to boost agricultural productivity and support the farming community through enhanced access to electricity.
Improved Performance and National Recognition for UP Discoms
The minister also highlighted the improved performance of Uttar Pradesh's distribution companies (discoms), noting that their ratings have seen significant enhancement. "Their ratings have improved significantly—moving upward from C-minus to C, C to B-minus, and further up. This is unprecedented progress," Sharma told the Assembly. He added that the country is taking note of these advancements, reflecting a broader recognition of the state's efforts in power sector reforms.
National Acclaim for Generation and Transmission Units
Furthermore, Sharma announced that UP's generation and transmission companies, including the unit at Anpara, have been recognized nationally as the best in the country. He described this achievement as a feat never before accomplished by any Uttar Pradesh power company, showcasing the state's commitment to excellence in power generation and distribution. This national acclaim reinforces the state's position as a leader in the power sector, setting a benchmark for other regions to follow.
