Ujjain Experiences Unprecedented Growth in Business and Religious Tourism, Says CM Mohan Yadav
Chief Minister Mohan Yadav inaugurated the 3rd edition of the Vikram Trade Fair in Ujjain on Sunday, emphasizing that the city is witnessing a robust phase of expansion in business, trade, and religious tourism. He noted that this growth is characterized by heightened commercial activity and a significant increase in devotees visiting the Mahakal Jyotirlinga.
Rapid Darshan and Economic Expansion Highlight Ujjain's Revival
"Incredible growth is being observed in business, trade, and religious tourist inflow," Yadav stated. "Across the nation, Mahakal Jyotirlinga stands as the sole location where devotees can complete their darshan in under half an hour and depart with joy." He described this period as a long-awaited moment for Ujjain and Avantika, marked by a surge in devotion for Baba Mahakal alongside expanding commercial endeavors.
Yadav highlighted Ujjain's historical significance as a hub for trade, commerce, religion, and education over millennia. "Our objective is to restore Avantika to its former glory in this comprehensive form," he affirmed, linking the city's past prominence with its current developmental trajectory.
Vikram Trade Fair Drives Municipal Revenue and Consumer Engagement
The economic impact of the Vikram Trade Fair was underscored by Yadav, who reported that municipal revenue from stall allocations increased from approximately Rs 3.5 crore last year to around Rs 4.10 crore this year. The fair, held daily from 11 am at the Engineering College campus, features:
- 139 stalls for four-wheelers
- 36 stalls for two-wheelers
- 7 banking counters
- 2 car-decoration stalls
Attractions include automobile sales, electronics, bank finance facilities, regional art and craft displays, traditional handicrafts, handloom and textiles, and local cuisine, all aimed at engaging residents and tourists alike.
Vikramotsav 2026 Assumes International Character with New Awards
During the inauguration, Yadav formally launched Vikramotsav 2026, which will encompass exhibitions, kalash yatra, cultural programs, musical evenings, and the trade fair. He announced that the event has now taken on an international dimension, with several new honors being instituted:
- A national-level award carrying a prize of Rs 21 lakh
- Plans to establish an international Vikram Award of Rs 1 crore 1 lakh
- Three state-level honors of Rs 5 lakh each
Additionally, a 50% discount on road tax is being offered for automobile purchases during the fair, further stimulating economic activity.
Steady Rise in Vehicle Sales Reflects Growing Consumer Participation
Officials noted a consistent increase in vehicle sales at the event, with units sold rising from 23,705 in 2024 to 36,225 in 2025. This trend underscores the growing consumer engagement and the fair's role in boosting local commerce. Yadav's announcements and the fair's diverse offerings position Ujjain as a key destination for both spiritual and economic pursuits, reinforcing its status as a dynamic center in the region.
