Tamil Nadu Governor Stages Walkout During Assembly Session
Tamil Nadu Governor RN Ravi made a dramatic exit from the state assembly on Tuesday. He left before delivering his inaugural address. The governor expressed strong disappointment over what he described as a lack of respect for the National Anthem.
Governor Cites Multiple Grievances
Governor Ravi stated clearly, "I am disappointed. National Anthem was not given due respect." He added that he found it unfortunate his speech was interrupted. The governor also made a significant claim. He alleged that his microphone was repeatedly switched off during the proceedings, preventing him from speaking.
Later, the Raj Bhavan issued a formal press release. It detailed the reasons behind the governor's decision to walk out. The statement reinforced the claim about the microphone being switched off. It also raised serious concerns about social issues being ignored in the prepared speech.
The release specifically mentioned that atrocities against Dalits and sexual violence against Dalit women are sharply increasing. It claimed these critical matters were totally bypassed. Furthermore, the statement alleged that the National Anthem was insulted once again and that a Fundamental Constitutional Duty was disregarded.
Speaker and Governor Clash in the House
Inside the assembly, the situation escalated quickly. A sharp exchange occurred between the governor and Assembly Speaker M Appavu. The speaker urged Governor Ravi to follow the established rules and customs of the legislative body. This confrontation highlighted the deepening rift between the governor's office and the state assembly.
History Repeats Itself
This incident was not an isolated event. A similar episode took place last year. Governor Ravi walked out of the Assembly then as well. At that time, he described his action as stemming from "deep anguish." He had alleged then that the "constitution of Bharat" and the National Anthem were insulted.
Political Stakes Rise Ahead of Elections
With Assembly elections drawing closer, the current session is viewed as politically crucial. The walkout has intensified the already charged atmosphere. Opposition parties, including the AIADMK and the BJP, are expected to level several allegations against the ruling DMK party and the state government.
On the other side, Chief Minister M K Stalin and his Cabinet colleagues are preparing their strategy. They aim to counter the political attacks effectively. This sets the stage for a tense and highly charged assembly session in the coming days.
The governor's walkout underscores the ongoing political friction in Tamil Nadu. It brings constitutional roles and state protocols into sharp focus just before a major electoral battle.
